Hemingways hotel, watamu - 100 kWp solar
Hemingways is 5 star luxury boutique beach hotel on the Indian ocean coast in Watamu. Tropical Power installed a 100 kWp ground-mount solar PV plant on their site. This provides a key part of the hotel’s energy supply, reducing their costs and improving environmental performance. The plant has consistently met and exceeded its forecast generation.

gorge farm, naivasha - 2.2 MW Grid-connected Bio Digester
Picture
Tropical Power was the EPC contractor for the 2.2MW Biogas Power plant which is currently operational on Gorge Farm, one of VP Group’s main farms situated near Lake Naivasha. The plant has a capacity of 2.2MW of electrical power generation and 2MW of thermal capacity to provide heat

The plant converts the agricultural residue from the vegetable farm to electricity via the anaerobic digestion (AD) process. The vegetable farm residue is comprised of crop residue in the field (mainly maize stalks, broccoli, runner bean and French bean plants) and the waste that comes from the farm’s packing operations. AD is a technology that produces methane (biogas) which is a base for clean renewable energy generation.  The biogas is then combusted in a combined heat and power plant to produce electricity. The electricity is consumed by the Farm and sold to the grid under a Power Purchase Agreement that was negotiated by Tropical Power. In addition to the electricity, waste heat energy is also recovered from the processed and re-used.
Likii farm, nanyuki - 100 KWP SOLAR & 165KWP SOLAR
Picture
Located less than 5km from the Equator, Likii farm is one of Kenya’s leading floriculture enterprises concerned with the cultivating of flowers and ornamental plants. Tropical Power financed, designed and installed two solar systems:
  •  A 100kWp roof-mount solar PV system forecasted to produce 153MWh per year of electricity.
  •  A 165kWp ground-mount  solar PV system forecasted to produce 248MWh per year of electricity.
likii farm, nanyuki - 500kw biomass boiler

Tropical Power designed, procured and installed a 500KW biomass boiler system at Liki Farm, Nanyuki. The boiler uses flower farm biomass waste as feedstock. The biomass waste is comprised of uprooted bushes, pruning waste, stock cuttings and foliage waste from the packing houses. The biomass boiler is operational and supplies the rose farm with hot water for heating the propagation greenhouses.  It has displaced a fossil fuel boiler.
ICOLO DATA CENTRE, NAIROBI - 194KWP SOLAR

Icolo.io builds and operates state-of-the-art carrier neutral data centres to serve a broad spectrum of clients. Tropical Power designed and installed a 194kWp roof mount solar PV plant at Icolo’s NBO1 data centre in Nairobi.
