Senior Team Members

The engineering team at Tropical Power has extensive hands-on experience in engineering procurement and construction (EPC), having worked on a number of high value energy projects in Africa. The team is comprised of Solar PV T3 engineers, NEBOSH certified safety practitioner and Certified Energy managers-CEM® backed by a strong team of research scientists. Tropical Power is also a registered and licensed solar PV contractor and holds the C1 and V2 licenses. The two licenses are for designing, manufacture and importation of solar PV systems.

on Tom Morton - Director
Tom is a founder of Tropical Power and has worked in Kenya since 2007. His role is to generate finance for the company’s energy portfolio, as well as general management. Tom’s professional background is in climate change mitigation and the emissions markets, having worked for ClimateCare since 2000, where he is still engaged. At ClimateCare, Tom has worked across Africa on carbon-based instruments, as well as being an expert on climate policy in the era of the Paris Agreement.

Mike Nolan – Director
Mike is an electrical engineer and was previously Operations Director for Africa for Aggreko, the world’s largest temporary power business. Mike has built 56 power plants in 22 African countries installing over 1GW of capacity on the continent.  He brings deep experience of the engineering and regulatory challenges of being a power producer in Africa and has proven experience in building and leading world class engineering teams. ​

Christopher Kamau – Senior Engineer
Christopher has worked at Tropical Power since 2013. He currently manages Gorge Farm AD Plant on a day-to-day basis and was site manager during its construction. He is very experienced in delivering the licencing requirements for our power plants, including grid connectivity protocols. Christopher is a certified energy manager and licensed energy auditor and consults on energy management and efficiency projects.

Harrison Kiprop -Senior Engineer
Harrison is an electrical engineer experienced in installation, commissioning and operations of power plants. He is licensed by the energy regulator as a class T3 solar PV technician. He prepares feasibility studies, proposals and designs for our power plant projects. Harrison is also a certified energy manager and provides support in energy efficiency projects.

Johnson Kimani – EIA Expert
Johnson is an expert in environmental and social impact assessment. He ensures our projects meet or exceed licensing or permitting requirements. ​

Maurice Mengere – Financial Controller
Maurice brings a wealth of experience in finance management having worked with Deloitte and Blackwood Hodge.

Daniel Odhiambo- Structural Engineer
Daniel has over 15 years of technical experience in design and assessment of civil and structural engineering projects. ​
